– Final Results to be Announced on April 26, 2012 –
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Apr. 20, 2012--
MetLife, Inc. (NYSE: MET) today issued the following statement regarding
the company’s preliminary financial results for the first quarter of
2012:
Shortly after 5:30 p.m. (ET) on April 18, 2012, MetLife furnished to the
Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and posted to the Investor
Relations section of the company’s Web site a Historical Results
Financial Supplement which contained historical financial information
for the quarters ended in 2011. This supplement showed the new
presentation format MetLife will be using for its Quarterly Financial
Supplements – beginning with the quarter ended March 31, 2012 – to
reflect its reorganization into six segments reflecting three broad
geographic regions. This supplement was made available in advance of the
company’s planned first quarter 2012 earnings announcement to aid
investors in understanding the impact of this recent reorganization. It
also reflected the adoption and retrospective application of new
guidance regarding accounting for deferred acquisition costs.
MetLife learned yesterday that the data in the version of the Historical
Results Financial Supplement posted on the company’s Web site could be
accessed in ways to make visible the preliminary financial results for
the first quarter of 2012 which were otherwise embedded in the document
but not visible. Therefore, MetLife has today furnished to the SEC and
posted to its Web site a new version of the supplement with the
preliminary financial results for the first quarter of 2012 fully
visible.
